The house was built during the Reign of George III and at the time of the Brick Tax (1784-1850) evidenced by the construction using “upended” bricks to save on the number of bricks used.
Originally 2 workers cottages believed to be the brick works for what is now Benenden Girls School. Hemsted House has remained full of character and period features, while sympathetically changed over the years into a large country house of today.
